Dr Giles P Croft
Specialises in: Mental Health & Wellbeing; Neuroscientific underpinnings of happiness
Giles is a former NHS surgeon who left clinical practice to explore a variety of careers, including health information management, cycling journalism, keynote speaking and high street retail with his wife. He has now returned to the healing profession, guiding people back to their innate health: an ever-present state of being that can only ever be obscured, never broken. He works remotely and in person, outdoors in the surrounds of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, where he lives with his wife and 7 year old daughter.
Giles used to think that creating the perfect set of circumstances—good job, plenty of money, fulfilling, humane work—was the best bet for a happy life. So he threw himself into a medical career and trained as a surgeon. I mean, what better way?
But achieving that success didn't deliver the happiness he’d expected and he found himself pulled towards other ventures, outside of medicine. He spent years trying to find the ‘right’ thing for him, genuinely believing there was something wrong with him when he couldn’t seem to settle, until in 2018, he stumbled across an understanding of how our minds work, how we experience the world and what we're capable of, that changed everything.
All of a sudden everything made sense. He realised there never was anything wrong with him, and he insightfully saw how happiness really is an ‘inside job’ – a natural, inbuilt state of calm and clarity we can all access, that’s independent of life’s circumstances.
Since then he’s had the great fortune to support and guide individuals and groups from all walks of life and from all over the world, sharing this understanding with them and watching them wake up to their true nature, as they reconnect to health and happiness, once and for all.
Giles supports people 1:1 either online or in person, in the glorious surrounds of the Brecon Beacons National Park. He runs group programmes for busy teams who are looking to optimise their resilience, creativity, connection and clarity; writes a monthly Wellbeing column for the Focus Magazine, and hosts a monthly online meet up for an international audience, called Wellbeing Wednesdays. His free Fresh Perspective on Wellbeing FOUNDATIONS course is a short self-study course that introduces people to the psychological principles that underpin innate health and wellbeing.
